雅楽に使われている楽器は、旋律を担う管楽器（吹物）、演奏時の指揮者的役割を担う打楽器（打物）、リズムを刻む絃楽器（弾物）の3つに大別されます。
楽器の使い方が洋楽とは異なるため、個性的かつ神秘的な楽曲へと仕上がります。 |

| 17本の竹を組み合わせ、そのうち15本にリードが付いた楽器・笙は、その姿が“翼を休めている鳳凰”のようであることから「鳳笙」と美称されています。曲の流れをリードする役割を受け持ち、5〜6つの音の重なりを吹くことで奏でられる神秘的で優しい音色は「天から差し込む光」に例えられるほどです。 |

Because Shou looks like a beautiful Chinese bird resting its wings, it is called “Feng Huan” in Chinese a legend bird name. The mysterious and beautiful 5-6 overlapped sound tones obtained by blowing and sucking is likened to the lights from the heaen. |

| 龍の笛の名の通り、その音色は「空を翔る龍の声」とされています。長さは約40cmで、息の使い方によって同じ指孔で1オクターブ違う音を出すことができ、音域が広く変化に富んだ装飾的な旋律を奏します。 |
| This is the name of dragon and the sound tones are voices of dragon flying in the sky. The size is about 40cm in length. According to breathing method 1-octave different sound can be output and the sound range is wide and changeable. |

長さ15cmの小さな外見とは裏腹に、力強い音色を奏し、雅楽の主旋律を担当します。リードを差し込んで吹き、指孔を押える指を変えることなく息づかいの強弱によって音を変化させることが出来るので、歌うように自由に演奏できるのが特徴です。その音色は「地上で生活する人間の声」を表していると言われています。

This instrument both powerful and tender and deep sound tones contrary to its small size of 15cm. The sound can be changed by the breathing strength without changing finger’s positions on the holes. The Hitiriki is the most important instrument and has the role of main melody. Features of this instrument are possible to play freely just like singing a song. It is said that the sound tones expresses the human voices living on the ground.
